Tom Ford Brow Sculptor 02 Taupe

Tom Ford Brow Sculptor 02 Taupe

Why it has taken me so long to write about this I don't know as it has fast become one of my favourite and most reached for products.
I am totally brow paranoid. I hate my brows - this post here explains why. They aren't hideous, but they are so sparse especially at the start and I cannot leave the house without filling them in.
I thought I had found my HG brow products in Suqqu Liquid brow pen and Shu Uemura's Hard Formula pencil (which I rotate on a daily basis) until one of my regular jaunts to Cardiff's Tom Ford counter led to the discovery of the Brow Sculptor.

I went for shade 02 - Taupe which is in fact incredibly similar in colour to the Shu Uemura Hard Formula in Seal Brown. A grey-tinged soft brown. I much prefer this pencil to the Shu Uemura, however, due to the innovative chiselled shape of the pencil. Instead of your regular pencil tip, this is long, thin and flat and makes application pretty foolproof.

Tom Ford Brow Sculptor Taupe 02

The sculptor itself is a dual ended plastic pencil with the brow sculptor at one end and a handy spoolie wand at the other end.
Tom Ford Brow Sculptor spoolie brush

If you unscrew the spoolie end of the pencil, a strange W shaped attachment is revealed. This is actually the sharpener to keep the chiselled pencil as sharp as your require it.

Tom Ford Brow Sculptor sharpener

I have used my Brow Sculptor for almost 7 months now and haven't needed, or rather wanted to sharpen it. I prefer mine slightly more blunt - I think it softens the overall look.

I use the spoolie to brush my brows upwards before drawing in the shape of my brows. Once I have finished drawing in the shape, I brush the brows back down for a more natural, softer look.

(edit: these lashes are Red Cherry 43 lashes for all who asked!)

Here you can see the difference between my naked brow and a Tom Ford sculpted brow. I know it is perhaps a little more obvious than most people like their brows, but I do love a strong brow. Sadly I wasn't blessed with them naturally so I improvise with my Brow Sculptor and I am so pleased with the results. I think they still look fairly natural and not really 'drawn on' as such.

Tom Ford Brow Sculptor Red Cherry lashes

At £32 this isn't cheap, but much like the Shu Uemura Hard Formula pencil, I can imagine this is going to be incredibly long lasting. The formulation is very similar to Shu Uemura's Hard Formula, but there are discreet differences and I prefer the Tom Ford.
I much prefer it to the Suqqu (never thought I'd find anything as good as  beloved Suqqu! ) purely because that one costs £20 and lasts hardly any time at all.

These Brow Sculptors come in four colours, Blonde, Taupe, Chestnut & Espresso.

NOTD: Barry M Pink Flamingo

Barry M Pink Flamingo manicure

This is one of my all time favourite nail polishes and I can't believe I haven't blogged about it yet.
A beautiful creamy pink-coral that can look almost neon in some lights, this is possibly also my favourite colour of all time too.
I love everything about this polish, including the name. I have a bit of a thing for flamingos, you see. I love them! Anything flamingo related, named or coloured gets a big thumbs up from me (I blame John Waters)

Barry M polishes are some of the absolute best out there in terms of formula, wear and range of colours available and they retail at only £2.99 a bottle - usually on offer in Boots or Superdrug for 2 for £5.

Barry M Pink Flamingo swatch

This polish has a great consistency, neither too thin nor too thick and is opaque in two coats. It is also intensely glossy - these photographs were taken without a topcoat.

I usually get 3-4 days wear without chipping with Pink Flamingo and almost all Barry M polishes.
I have chosen this colour for my manicure as I am off on a little break this weekend with my family and I need a polish I know will last over a long weekend without chipping or tip wear. Although it looks as though this weekend is going to be a wet one, I'm very much in the holiday spirit!

Have a good weekend everyone x

Ooh La La FOTN

I posted about a few Topshop cosmetics I purchased recently and I thought it might be useful to see these products 'in action'. You can also see the effects of my St Moriz tan two days after application, as described in this post.

Topshop Ooh La La face of the day

Estee Lauder DoubleWear 4w1 (only ever use this when tanned)
Diorskin Nude Concealer 02 under eyes
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium
Tom Ford Brow Sculptor - Taupe
MAC All that glitters over lid
Cala False Lashes
(have thrown card away and cannot remember which ones!)
Lancome Doll Eyes Mascara
Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
 Shiseido Fine Eyeliner Black
MAC Powersurge on lower lashline
Topshop Neon Rose Blush
NARS Torrid Blush
Topshop Ooh La La lipstick
As I mentioned in my original Topshop cosmetics post, the cream blushes are not particularly long lasting on my skin, so I set Neon Rose with NARS' Torrid which is a really beautiful peachy combination.
I was so impressed with the longevity of the Topshop lipstick in Ooh La La also. I only touched up a few times over the course of the night (from 7pm -2am!) and in all of the photographs whilst I am looking slightly worse for wear (understatement) at least my lipstick looks fresh and flawless!
I did toy with posting photographic evidence but I think I'll spare you the image of me circa 12am in the middle of Cardiff , pouting with a cowboy hat on!

Blush Horizon De Chanel

Chanel Blush Horizon De Chanel

I caved.
I swore I wouldn't but it got the better of me. Meet the newest addition to my ever increasing blush collection - Blush Horizon De Chanel.

Chanel Blush Horizon De Chanel

Blush Horizon De Chanel was launched earlier this year as part of the Spring 2012 collection. I resisted for so long but as you can see, this blush is just so beautiful, how could I resist?
For this post I will let the images do most of the talking, partly because this blush is so aesthetically pleasing and partly because I am battling chronic head and eye pain so I am trying to look at a computer screen for as short a time as possible!

Chanel Blush horizon de chanel pan
L: Natural Light                   R: Flash

The blush consists of stripes of varying shades of pink, peach and a soft plum coloured blush with an added strip of highlighter. Each colour individually is gorgeous but when combined they create the perfect glowy, peachy-pink shade I have been craving.

Blush Horizon de Chanel on cheek

This blush is simply divine. From the buttery, finely milled texture to the perfect combination of colours, it feels luxurious and looks exquisite. The pinky-peach shade works well on my complexion and the added highlighter adds a subtle glow. There is no noticeable glitter in this blush, just a soft sheen.

Chanel Blush Horizon review

Blush Horizon De Chanel comes with it's own applicator brush which as a rule would be discarded as soon as I set eyes upon it, but Chanel have gone the extra mile with this blush and even the brush is super soft and suprisingly...works. It's a really excellent brush that picks up all of the stripes and manages to blend them all on to the cheek.
I have only used this brush so far to apply the blush - I must admit I am afraid to use anything else for fear of swirling all of the colours together and ending up with a rather blurry horizon.

Chanel Blush Horizon Swatch

I can honestly say that Blush Horizon De Chanel is so worth the rather hefty price tag it carries (£46!) It is luminous without appearing frosty or glittery, it is butter-soft yet still delivers a pretty flush of colour and on my skin works as a blush/highlighter combination. I think my search for the perfect peachy-pinky-glowy blush is over.

Not going to stop me looking though, is it? ;)

Blush Horizon De Chanel on cheeks

This blush was/is limited edition for Spring 2012 but I have seen it on several counters recently so I believe it is still available to purchase, despite reading that it was a sell out on some counters.

All About Nails - Orange Fizz NOTD

All About Nails Orange Fizz
Whilst doing my food shopping recently I stopped at the beauty section in Tesco to see what was on offer. The much lauded Vivo range was there but nothing really appealed to me. On the shelf above however was a range of dinky little nail polishes all priced at 99p.
One in particular grabbed my attention instantly - a bright tangerine called Orange Fizz.
At just 99p I had to try it, despite not having very high hopes for it.

All About Nails Orange Fizz Manicure

I have been pleasantly suprised, however. The polish itself is a nice thick tangerine creme that was opaque in two coats. I wore it for three days over Orly Bonder base coat and with a Poshe topcoat. Whilst there was no chipping there was quite significant shrinkage at the tips after the first day.

All About Nails Orange Fizz Swatch

Overall I am impressed with this for under £1. This is actually the most inexpensive polish in my collection and I can see it being a firm favourite this summer.

Neutral Everyday Make Up FOTD

This look is one I wear so often due to how quick and easy it is and how few products are used. If I am in a rush and need to look polished and feel 'put together' this is the look I opt for. As much as I love my bright or red lips, you can't beat a good nude and I always feel well within my comfort zone with a nude lip.
It's a no brainer for me, there is no thought or even much effort put into this and I can wear it without feeling like I am trying too hard.

Natural Everyday Make up look with Tom Ford Blush Nude
Estee Lauder DoubleWear Light Intensity 1
MAC MSFN Light Medium
Tom Ford Brow Sculptor - Taupe
Lancome Artliner - IceBlack
MAC Kohl - Powersurge on lower waterline
Lancome Hypnose Drama mascara
Daniel Sandler Waterblush Cherub
Tom Ford lipstick Blush Nude

One thing I cannot understand is why the Lancome Artliner is called IceBlack when it is neither icy or black. It is the most divine shimmery brown shade that is much softer for a day time look than black liquid liner. It is possibly one of my HG liquid liners.

What is your favourite every day make up look?

St Moriz Tanning Mousse 'Dark' Before & After review

St Moriz Tanning Mousse Dark

St Moriz has achieved cult status amongst the Beauty blogging community. For as long as I have been a part of it, there have always been an abundance of blog posts, youtube videos and online reviews raving about this bargain self tanning product.
By bargain, I mean absolute STEAL. This product comes in at an incredibly purse friendly £2.99.
Now to put that in to perspective...£2.99 for a 200ml bottle of St Moriz compared to £30.64 for 240ml bottle of St Tropez.
That would all be totally irrelevant if the product was ineffective, of course. But the amazing thing is, is that St Moriz in my humble opinion works just as well as St Tropez.

For £2.99 I can forgive the dodgy spelling and branding (I assume they mean Moritz? and even so...St Moritz in Switzerland? Host of the Winter Olympics and Alpine Skiing championships? That doesn't conjur images of bronzed beach goddesses to me...) but I digress.

The bottom line is, this stuff is inexpensive and fabulous. It gives me a gorgeously golden glow, applies like a dream, never streaks or goes patchy and fades evenly to give the most natural appearance.
I always purchase the dark version of this tan, but that is purely my personal preference. To achieve the colour I like, it takes two applications of the regular St Moriz, as opposed to just one application of the dark version. It's just easier and less time consuming and costs no more than the regular version.
St Moriz Dark Tanning Mousse Colour

The base of this self tan is an olive colour, so it never goes orange. It used to be difficult to find lower priced self tans that have an olive toned base. I cannot stand tans that give the appearance of being tango-ed so St Moriz is a godsend when I'm being frugal.

The smell, like most fake tans is that of wet, stale biscuits. It's just unavoidable when it comes to fake tans in my experience so this isn't a negative point for me. I am prepared to put up with the smell for the great results.
St Moriz Mousse Dark

The plastic pump bottle is great and never clogs up with product and delivers the product well - never too much or too little. The mousse itself is brown in colour which is a helpful guide when applying the product, you know exactly where you have covered and where needs to be covered. I generally apply this in the evening and shower off the next morning, it may look as though you are washing most of the tan off as the shower water runs brown but it really is only the guide colour.

I use this tan all over my body, including my face and it has never ever caused breakouts or a reaction on my sensitive, combination skin.

Please be aware that prior to, during and after using this, or in fact ANY self tanning product I have a pretty intense regime to ensure optimum tanning results.

Body Shop Satsuma Exfoliator

Up to three days before - the day before
I exfoliate my body every day for about 3 days before I intend to apply fake tan. I simply use an exfoliating body mitt or bath puff with any shower gel or a designated body exfoliating product (see here for a great recommendation) paying particular attention to problem areas such as elbows, ankles and knees.
After exfoliating I use a heavy moisturiser on my body (again, see this review for some great ones)
For my face, I use a muslin cloth twice daily as part of my normal facial routine so this is exfoliating enough for my sensitive skin. If I am feeling I need an extra boost, I will use a gentle facial exfoliator the night before I am going to apply the fake tan followed by my usual moisturiser.

Make sure any hair removal (waxing, shaving etc) is done the day before you intend to apply fake tan.

Body Shop Satsuma Body Butter

Step 1 - Up to an hour before applying
An hour before I am going to apply the fake tan I moisturise my body with a highly scented moisturiser, this helps counteract the stale, wet biscuit smell a little, but it doesn't go completely! I like the Body Shop's Satsuma Body Butter for this part.
For my face I use a toner then moisturise with a slightly heavier moisturiser than my every day one. I tend to use La Roche Posay Toleraine Riche for this.
I then let these moisturisers really sink into my skin before I apply the self tanning product. During this time I prepare everything I need to apply the tan - old or dark towels (I have black) latex gloves, tanning mitt, hair clips or hair bands to tie hair up out of the way, self tanning product and a trusty friend (in my case, I rope my husband into this) to tan my back.

Solkiss Tanning Mitt St Moriz Dark Mousse

Step 2 - Applying the tan
Work quickly with the tan and really rub into the skin for best results. The guide colour ensures you get the most even tan possible. I prefer to pump the mousse on to the mitt then apply to the skin in circular motions, starting from my face and working down. As they have gloves and/or mitt on during the application, I leave my hands until last. When my body is finished I remove the gloves and rub the remaning product from the mitt over the backs of my hands and then work into the fingers to ensure there are no gaps and tell tale signs you are wearing fake tan. Remember you want to look as natural as possible and any white patches will look fake and nasty.

Step 3 - After applying the tan
Wear as little as possible in the way of clothing immediately after applying the tan and for as long as possible after to ensure it dries evenly. I do admit I do tend to sit around on an old towel, completely naked for around two hours post application. I know, I know. Too much information and I hope that image isn't too frightening but it is the only way I can guarantee my tan won't rub off on anything!
I leave the tan to develop for as long as possible (always overnight) For as long as I have been applying a self tanning product I have always done it in the evening, usually the evening before an event/night out etc.

Step 4 - The morning after applying
I shower the guide colour off the next morning, revealing a gorgeously golden glow. Do not exfoliate at this point but use a nice moisturising shower gel or bath product.  For my face I cleanse with my usual cleanser but no muslin cloth, just use hands at this point. After showering I pat my skin dry with a towel rather than vigorous rubbing and then apply a light, usually oil based body moisturiser to really enhance the tan and give the skin a real glow - I really like Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse for this or any dry oil body spray will work.

And there we have it, bronzed beach goddess. Or maybe not quite, but something along those lines.

Step 5 - Tan Maintenance
To ensure the tan lasts as long as possible and fades evenly and gradually, I repeat the above step every day after application. The day I notice the tan starting to fade (usually 2-3 days post application) I start exfoliating/moisturising again as described in step 1.

St Moriz Dark Mousse Before and After

And there we have it - a beautiful tan with zero skin damage and little damage to your purse!  I have added a before & after picture to give you an idea of the results on my fairly pale skin. In the before picture I am wearing little in the way of foundation, just a tinted moisturiser (Laura Mercier in Nude) I am a MAC NC20 for reference.
The after picture shows how the tan looks on my skin the morning after application and a shower...
Please forgive the frightening make-up less face and bed hair!

A little Topshop make up collection...

I have seen so much about Topshop's make up but I've never really had the urge to purchase any. I'll be honest, I'm a total make-up snob and I don't really buy or use drugstore/high street make up. I do have a few little gems I have found and repurchase but that's about it.
However, the more I read about the Topshop make up range the more I wanted to try it, particularly the cream blushes.

So on a recent trip to Cardiff I popped into Topshop to see what all the fuss was about.
The Topshop aesthetic really isn't me. I am neither skinny, attractive, cool or fashionable enough to shop in Topshop. I genuinely feel quite intimidated in there so in I scurried, toddler in tow, dodged in and out of the uber cool trendies eyeing up skinny jeans and disco hotpants and headed straight to the cosmetic counter.
I have NEVER felt so frumpy in my life!
There I was in my maxi dress, flip flops and cropped denim jacket amidst a sea of geek glasses, asymmetric haircuts and chiselled cheekbones and I panicked, grabbed the three nearest items and ran to the tills.

Topshop Cardiff Make up

I picked up two cream blushes and a lipstick: Neon Rose cream blush, Flush cream blush and Ooh La La lipstick.

Topshop Make up Cardiff

Firstly, the packaging. Oh the packaging! I am a sucker for anything polka dot and the blush boxes & compacts are adorable. Monochrome outer and primary packaging is such a simple yet effective idea. The sketchy style patterns give an almost retro feel that I love. These are quite quirky and kitsch and look fabulous in my make up bag. My only gripe is that the primary packaging is white and soft in texture which means it attracts EVERY scrap of dirt, leaked make up and fingerprints/smudges. Annoying for those of us with OCD when it comes to cleanliness. This packaging is like NARS' white, non rubberised counterpart!

Silly gripes aside, I am totally in love with these three items and have used them in heavy rotation over the past month. The colours are so perfect and the formulas are lovely.

Topshop Blush Swatches Flush and Neon Rose
 L: Flush    R: Neon Rose

The cream blushes are soft and smooth and blend into the skin easily. I use my fingers to dot then blend on to the cheeks and a MAC 188 brush if I want a softer look.

Topshop Neon Rose and Topshop Flush swatches

The colours are similar - both coral colours with Neon Rose leaning more towards a hot orange-pink coral and flush a much softer, more pink toned coral.
Neon Rose is my absolute favourite, it is so vibrant and I LOVE wearing it. I just wish I could find an equivalent colour blush in a powder formula.
With my oily skin my only negative with these cream blushes is that they aren't very long lasting. The blushes cost an unbelievably cheap £6 - I still can't believe they are so inexpensive.

Topshop Ooh La La Swatch on lips

The lipstick I picked up- Ooh La La- is a vibrant peach-coral shade that has a lovely creamy formula. I usually find cheaper lipsticks tend to feel either waxy and lack pigment or feel drying on the lips, but these Topshop lipsticks are an exception. At a bargain £8 they feel comfortable on the lips and have excellent pigment and staying power.

I am so impressed with the Topshop make up range, I don't think these will be my last purchases. I have some FOTD's coming up with these products too.

Do you have any other recommendations from the range?

NOTD: Leighton Denny 'I Love Juicy'

I should have called this NOTW rather than NOTD - because this is what has been gracing both my fingers and toes for the past week.
It is rare that I match both finger and toe nails but I love this colour so much.

Leighton Denny I Love Juicy

If you know me, you may know I have a slight obsession with all things coral. My coral nail polish collection is enormous but Leighton Denny's I Love Juicy is a clear, firm favourite.
A gorgeously hot coral that was perfect for last week's mini heatwave. Although definitely a coral, this leans more towards the orange end of the coral scale.
This polish applies and wears like a dream - a lovely thick creme formula that is opaque in two coats.
Leighton Denny I Love Juicy review

As I mentioned, this has adorned both my fingers and toes for the best part of a week now and only on day 4-ish did I start suffering with a bit of tipwear - no chips at all however.

I wore this with a base coat of Orly Bonder and Poshe topcoat - gorgeously glossy and tropical looking nails.

Leighton Denny polishes cost £11. I tend to buy mine from John Lewis or online.

Lush Easter: Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb

Lush Fluffy Egg Easter Bath Bomb

Happy Easter everyone!

Lush Easter - Fluffy Egg

Are you sick of the sight of Easter Eggs yet? I apologise that this is yet another egg, but this one is a little different. This one won't permanently reside on your hips or make you feel sick after you indulge in the 5th one (just me? Oh okay)

Meet the Fluffy Egg Bath Ballistic from Lush. A gorgeous egg shaped pink bath bomb adorned with pretty flowers. Fluffy egg smells DIVINE. For Snow Fairy/Fairy Wand lovers - this is exactly the same scent. The sweet smell filled my bathroom this evening as I relaxed in candy pink bath water. My skin now feels soft, smooth and I smell edible.
What a perfect way to spend an Easter Sunday Evening.

Lush Fluffy Egg for Easter

Fluffy Egg Bath Ballistics cost £2.95 from Lush stores or online - they are released for Easter so I am unsure how much longer they will be around for. Stock up while they are still in stores!

Body Shop Born Lippy Lipbalms

Body shop Born Lippy balms - raspberry, guava and satsuma

This is just a quick post to let you know that one of my favourite lipbalms, Body Shop's 'Born Lippy range are currently on a 3 for 2 promotion.I popped into the Body Shop this weekend to replace a lost one and picked up three for just £4 (usually £2 each)
Stock up while you can!

Body Shop Born Lippy balms

I went for my three favourites - Raspberry, Guava and Clementine Shimmer. The clementine is my all time favourite. It smells just like the Body Shop Satsuma body butter (another all time favourite) and is laced with delicate gold glitter particles.

I had always imagined the glitter particles to be scratchy and uncomfortable on the lips but this is not the case, the glitter is so fine you cannot feel it at all on the lips. It shimmers beautifully whilst also hydrating the lips and and keeps them looking plump and moisturised.

Chanel Rouge Coco - 117 Magnolia (repromote)

Chanel recently launched a mini Spring collection in the UK consisting of some new & repromoted Rouge Coco & Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks. They have also repromoted the 'Les Jeans De Chanel' Nail Polish line that was previously exclusive to Harrods. I spotted these in both Boots and Debenhams in Cardiff.
For a more detailed look into this mini collection, please take a look at the lovely Visionary Beauty's blogpost.
In this post I will be looking at one of the repromoted Rouge Coco shades, 117 Magnolia.

Chanel Rouge Coco 117 Magnolia

I already own Rouge Coco 117 Magnolia  from when it was previously launched as part of the 2010 Holiday Collection. I loved the lipstick so much but due to it being limited edition I have used it so rarely for fear of running out (silly, I know)
I am so delighted it has been repromoted, I can finally wear it to my heart's content without fear of ever running out (back up's being bought ASAP!)
Magnolia is pink, there's no doubt about that. But this pink is unusual because in natural light it appears a soft pink shade with a hint of peach but in strong sunlight and artificial light it appears to be a cool pink with subtle blue undertones. There is a very fine silver shimmer running through the lipstick but again, this is only ever really noticeable in the tube. On the lips it just appears glossy.

L: Artificial Light/flash                    R: Natural light

I thought at the time of it's original launch that Magnolia was an odd choice for a Christmas collection. This kind of pink screams SPRING to me.
I often struggle with cool, blue toned pinks but something about Magnolia just works for me. It is so flattering and face-brightening - I have been wearing this non stop since the repromote.
Chanel Magnolia Rouge Coco 117 on lips

I love the Rouge Coco formula and this is just one of the many I own. They are soft and comfortable on the lips and last a decent amount of time before requiring a re-application.
If you like pretty, soft pink lipsticks then I urge you to check out Magnolia...I am not sure if this is a permanent addition to the Rouge Coco line (fingers crossed) or if it is once again a limited edition.

Here is how I wore this lipstick today - not a patch on Sigrid Agren in the official Chanel campaign (Sigrid wears this lipstick in the ads - check out the picture on Visionary Beauty's post) but a very pretty lipstick nonetheless.
